Christian Education and Programs

(Please call the Rector/Minister for more details)

The Church of John the Baptist has a very active and involved congregation. In addition to the weekly worship services, there are Christian Education programs and various activities offered to adults, youth and children. We have a thriving Church School (that meets during part of the worship service as well as after it), youth activities, and adult study groups. Below is a brief list of some of these opportunities.

Nursery

During the Friday morning Worship Service a nursery is provided that is led by a trained pre-school teacher.

Church School (K to 12th Grade Age children meet during part of the Friday morning Worship Service)

All young children and youth (K-12th grade) are encouraged to become a part of this learning experience. A variety of teaching material is used, from Augsburg Fortress publications to those put together by the teachers themselves.

Youth

There are various Middle School and High School youth activities (see the Youthpage) throughout the year under the leadership of Rev. Ben Robinson, our Associate Minister (see the Who's Who page). Please contact Ben with any questions at: benjaminpaulrobinson@yahoo.com  OR tel.# 010-157-0080.

Additionally, during the fall or spring, a class is held for those young people contemplating Confirmation.

*Learn Arabic at St. John's--The Episcopal Training Center (ETC) offers Arabic classes at the church. The convenient location, and the experience and quality teaching of ETC, makes learning Arabic in Cairo accessible! For more info contact ETC at 010-665-0877 / 2526-7017.

*Abraham Forums---These occasional seminars, lectures and/or courses, offered serve as a "continuing education program" to study Eastern Christianity and Islam within a Middle Eastern context. Past course titles have been: The Survey of Christian / Muslim Relations in the Middle East, The Foundations of Egyptian Christianity, Biblical Figures in the Qur'an, An Overview of the Coptic Orthodox Church, etc.

*Spiritual Pilgrimages/Educational Tours From time to time, various pilgrimages/trips are organized with the goal of spiritually benefiting from the rich Christian history of the Church in Egypt—from the early Egyptian Church Fathers (Clement, Origin, Saint Athanasius, etc.), to the desert monastic tradition of the Coptic Orthodox Church (Saint Anthony, Saint Catherine’s, etc.), to the development of the Church as it exist in Egypt today, including the Episcopal/Anglican Church. Additionally, educational tours are arranged toward learning about Islam and the Islamic history of Egypt.

For other programs—Please call the Rector at 2358-3085.

Volunteers Needed!

Because of the transient nature of the international community at St. John the Baptist, there are always many opportunities for service and help in every area of ministry. For example, there is a continual need for volunteers to help in teaching Church School. We extend a warm invitation to all to volunteer in the area of their interest and giftedness.
